Herbal Remedy

Stuff that works
~ The true story

One of the ways networking with other Natural People
can be
helpful is the many recipes
 remedies available.
One that is often talked about is the
wonders of Apple Cider Vinegar.

    ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) - is naturally brewed
   vinegar made from apples.

I'd never experienced a problem with having a dry
scalp or flakes even when living in Denver.
However this knowledge that became useful to me when I started
working with a client who had a terrible problem with flakes.
She was even under a doctor’s care for the problem.

When putting in her Sisterlocks™ I noticed extreme flaking
as if it was “snowing”.

 I mentioned the remedy and suggested she try it.

Well I’m a true witness… it worked for her.
Her
Sisterlocks™ are 10 months old now and all traces
of flaking are gone. She of course is quite happy.

Before trying any of these remedies be certain to consult
 your Loctitian or Consultant.

Depending on the maturity of your locks it may be advised not to use.

What are those flakes…???

Dandruff  is a common scalp condition that occurs
when dead skin is shed producing irritating white  flakes.

Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse (Originally posted by Sigrid)

This natural remedy is attributed to Pamela Ferrell:
3 ounce of apple cider vinegar
1 quart of distilled water
1 teaspoon of sage oil
Use weekly after shampoo as a final rinse

I've been using it for a couple of months and it has worked
wonders.  No itching, no dandruff, and better feeling locs
has resulted in my case.  It seems to improve locs
differently for each person.  It makes my soft locs more
substantial and I hear that it softens hard locs.

Sandy from LockItUp and A Nappy Hair Affair  (ANHA)
gave me this recipe.
 I love it and use it all the time on myself and my clients.

Here’s the recipe  used to spritz my clients hair after a retighthen.
In the batches I make I use  only water not the jojoba oil .

Sandy made my first batch and I’ve been hooked every since.

Here’s Sandy's write up on the Spritz.

Here's one I found that I *really* like.  It comes from the book "Aromatherapy
Blends & Remedies" by Franzesca Watson.  This recipe smells very similar to
Carol's Daughter's Khoret Ahmen Oil and has most of the same ingredients.  I've
used it for a couple of months now, and I really like it. It can be used as a
hot oil treatment, a hair & scalp oil, or a spritz.

2 oz jojoba oil
12 drops rosemary Essential oil
10 drops bay Essential oil
9 drops atlas cedarwood Essential oil
You can use this same recipe (without the jojoba oil) in 4 oz. of water in a
spray bottle as a spritz for your hair.

Essential oils should be diluted before use.
Please use with caution.
Some oils can be irritating to skin if used in full strength.

Here are more remedies I found posted on-line.
I have not tried any of the ones below.
Be certain to do your own research before using.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dandruff
1) Make an infusion of 1 ounce each of fresh or dried rosemary and sage in
2 cups of water. Let steep for 24 hours, then use daily as a hair rinse.
2) Boil 5 heaping tbsps dried thyme in 2 cups water for 10 minutes. Strain
and cool. Pour 1/2 mixture over clean, damp hair. Massage into scalp, do not
rinse. Use second half of solution another day.
3) Instead of shampooing, massage handfuls of baking soda into the hair and
scalp to absorb oil and to loosen dead skin on scalp. Rinse thoroughly,
use no other shampoos. While initially the hair may seem dry, after several
weeks, dandruff will be gone and hair will be smooth and shiny.
4) Mint Rinse
Boil:
1 cup water
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 handful of fresh mint leaves
Strain and pour into a container. With fingertips, massage solution into the
scalp, let dry without rinsing out.
5) Soothing Herbal Hair Rinse
Combine equal parts of dried rosemary, comfrey, witch hazel leaves and nettles
to make about 1/2 cup. Add to 2 cups of water in a covered pot. Bring to a boil.
Remove from heat and let steep overnight. Strain. Shampoo and rinse hair then
use herb tea for a final rinse to relieve itchy, flaky scalp.
Tonic for Dandruff
Essential oils can be used in a base of distilled water to
provide a hair tonic for various uses. Here is a tonic that
will help control dandruff if used several times a week.
You will need:
1 1/2 cups distilled water (or rosewater)
Witch hazel (available at most drugstores)
3 teaspoons of cider vinegar
Oil of Lavender
Oil of Rosemary
Oil of Tea Tree
Mix the water, 1/4 cup of the witch hazel, the cider
vinegar, six drops each of the lavender and rosemary oils,
and three drops of the tea tree oil in a glass bottle.
Shake this well and apply it to your wet or dry hair
several times a week. Massage the tonic into your scalp.
You do not have to rinse your hair afterward.
