Bein' a Kid Again
"The Slumber Party"

The "REAL" Pat

October 2000
Well what can I say …….
We all have "Bad Hair" moments.

These are the times when even that Best Loved hair care choice is NOT doing what we want or looking like we want
… or being what "our" minds say it should be.

Well this is the stage I'm at in my
Sisterlocks™ Journey.

As described in the book

"Hairlocking: Everything You Need to Know:

 African, Dread and Nubian Locks"
by Nekhena Evans

   These are the teen years

NO matter how many times your peers say you look great ..

You can always find that one little thing  that is not right.

In my case my hair is growing like crazy  … but not at the same rate.
So as a result I have long locks and short locks as well as a variety of thickness.  This poses a problem when trying to get a uniform look. At some  point once they turn a year (January 2001), I will have them "groomed" but for now I must deal with this rebellious stage they are in.

Ever had a bad hair cut that you could not correct until your
hair grew out …
Well now you're on my page.

So remember all those wonder, neat pictures of me on my other pages.  Well if the truth be told .... and I know it's hard to believe ... but I DON"T just wake up like that.
So in this story you will meet
THE "REAL" PAT

OH NO!!!  at times it takes work.  After all Sisterlocks™ or any other natural hair care choices, have to be cared for.

Have you ever had anyone tell you to just cut your hair in a short 'fro (TWA) so it would be easy to care for? Yeah right ..... if your hair grows fast you WILL be making regular trips to the barber to get a "shape up".
A well groomed TWA looks sharp .... on the other hand a tacky one .... needs a call to the Hair Police.

So remember Natural DOES NOT mean doing nothing to your hair. So this is the time when having friends around to support you and quite frankly "pull" you thru is a very good thing.

If you don't have any locked friends in your area, join some of the on-line  natural hair care e-mail groups.  This is a rich source for information as well as you get the opportunity to meet some really nice people from all over the world.

I'm lucky to have those friends here in Colorado.

So on a particular weekend in October, Sigrid Walker invited several of us "Locked" sistas  to her home in Boulder for a wine and cheese gathering.
Because I live about an hour away and it was going to be late at my arrival, I brought my PJ's with plans to spend the night.

Well this was a great time to talk and touch hair.  There is a certain spirit when you are in the presence of other people with Natural hair.

What is a good sleep over with out watching videos?
So we watched several including Lockin' UP.

Well I'm no dummy …

Coming prepared to get my hair styled I brought my box full of rollers and styling aids.  I figured with all those hands present someone would want to "play" in my hair.

Hey  I was right…..
Paleri, Sigrid's sister and Certified Sisterlocks™ Consultant took on the challenge and set my hair on perm rods.

Now for the rest of the story.
